Oudste adviescollege van Nederland in continu bestaan — opgericht in 1902 als 'Centrale Gezondheidsraad' (Gezondheidswet-1901), vanaf 1956 in de huidige vorm onder de Gezondheidswet.

De Gezondheidsraad is een bij wet (1956) ingesteld onafhankelijk adviescollege dat de regering en het parlement adviseert op basis van de actuele stand van wetenschap. Bekend van het jaarlijkse advies over griepvaccinatie, de Voedingsrichtlijnen, en adviezen over COVID-19 vaccinatiestrategie. Ongeveer 200 wetenschappers (onbezoldigd, in commissies) + een klein secretariaat.
