Water safety

Primary flood defences (dykes along the sea, rivers, IJsselmeer) plus regional defences. Tested every 12 years under the Water Act. High Water Protection Programme co-financing via the Delta Fund.

Water quality + treatment

18 sewage treatment plants — domestic and industrial wastewater is treated. EU Water Framework Directive.

Own taxes

Water-system levy (residents + landowners/nature) + treatment levy (households) + pollution levy (companies). Own board (general + executive) via direct elections — held alongside Provincial Council elections.
