Founded
1954
De NIWO werd opgericht in 1954 als uitvoeringsinstantie voor de vergunningverlening in het beroepsgoederenvervoer over de weg. Het ZBO verleent Eurovergunningen, vergunningen voor afvalvervoer en cabotage.

De NIWO (Nationale en Internationale Wegvervoer Organisatie) verleent vergunningen voor beroepsgoederenvervoer over de weg in binnen- en buitenland en geeft Eurovergunningen, CEMT-vergunningen en ritmachtigingen uit. Daarnaast beheert de NIWO de VIHB-lijst voor vervoerders en inzamelaars van afvalstoffen. De ZBO toetst op betrouwbaarheid, financiële draagkracht en vakbekwaamheid conform de EU-verordeningen.
