Het COKZ werd in 1981 opgericht als centraal orgaan voor kwaliteitstoezicht in de zuivel- en eierenketen. De stichting is ZBO onder de Landbouwkwaliteitswet en ziet toe op kwaliteitseisen voor zuivel- en eiproducten.

De Stichting COKZ (Centraal Orgaan voor Kwaliteitsaangelegenheden in de Zuivel) is het ZBO dat namens LVVN toeziet op kwaliteit van zuivelproducten, consumptie-eieren en geharmoniseerde EU-eierproducten. COKZ controleert producenten en handelaren, geeft exportcertificaten af en beheert registers. Voor zuivel is de rol mede gekoppeld aan de Landbouwkwaliteitswet.
